    • keep it up, good content here. i come here to see stuff i'm never going to have to deal with like exotic car repair. i do all my own repairs and wouldn't have it differently but the shit a mechanic has to deal with.. people bring you stuff most often because they don't know the first thing about how a car runs. i know i'm a rare breed in my understanding. i've fixed issues much more experienced and multiple shops couldn't figure out. just saying where i'm coming from.. that said, the prius thing, you done what you were asked i can't see you or anyone not giving a warning. shit happens especially when one goes looking for it. i also can't understand the possible motive for burning a ferarri up that belongs to a regular customer knowing it'll be youtube drama. people are dumb... that's my conclusion. they see something and do their armchair diagnosing of problems and start pointing fingers. nevermind them not being there in person to even have a clue or in many cases don't know their way around under the hood and a wrench simply not fitting their hand.. they do not think maybe, being on the internet, it's b/s and another youtube dollar.

Now at 55 yrs old I have known many great mechanics and very , very few of them would be willing to work on the exotic cars that you regularly work on. I commend you and your skill... Reasonable , Honest mechanics are few and far between. Keep up the great work , You Rock. Many Blessings , SMR

  • If you were a self-proclaimed Ferrari or Porsche expert, I would expect that you would be aware of and handle open recall items. Or you would refer the customer to a dealer to do the replacements at the dealer's cost. This is typical and common sense. When I buy a used car, I always check with the dealership for open recalls along with the government web site. I suppose you could have done that, or maybe Hoovie should have. Whatever, it was interesting to watch the aftermath. BTW, we V-8 Ferrari owners are well aware of this issue with the 355, however the recall is a comparatively recent thing, I think from the early 2000's. Unfortunately, I became a Hoovie fan too late to email him about this and other 355 issues before the car burned and it was all moot. I certainly would not have held you responsible for the fire. Not your area. Regarding the Porsche situation, when you track a car, it's owner beware. Anything can happen. A Porsche specialist or track prep mechanic might have cautioned the owner of what could happen, but really, track failures are unpredictable. So I again wouldn't hold you responsible. I think people like to look for other people to blame for times when sh*t happens, or their own lack of common sense/judgement. Hoovie doesn't do that and he just rolls with it. At times I've even heard him accept responsibility. If he holds you blameless, how could I? It wasn't my car.

  • I didn't see your rant as gloomy. I found it to be quite informative, honest and to the point. I have worked on many cars myself and give the customers information of problems I notice. It is not my job or your job to repair them unless authorized to make the repair. No one can work for free and doing ones diligence to inform the customer should not be met with unrealistic expectations or disrespect. You can advise a customer against doing something and if they know and accept the risks it is on them. In those situations though, I might still require a waiver of liability just knowing the stupidity of some of the laws and unreasonable expectations these days. I appreciate it when people present this kind of information. Keep up the great work. Would have been cool to see more of the carnage in full detail though. I had an engine do something similar but was not due to nitrous. I think one of the connecting rod caps either came loose or the connecting rod may have broke like this one at hwy speeds due to metal fatigue. In my case it was a toyota corolla motor in the 86 or 87 chevy nova. I was driving at hwy speeds when the engine blew cylinder rod number 3 or 4 through the block, the starter solenoid, and the radiator but was still running on three cylinders for the next 1/4 to 1/2 mile till I could pull over. Was pretty impressed it made it that far and still started up after stopping it. I had it towed to a friends house to replace the motor.

  • First of all, I want to say this, David you do a great job and you 'sort of compliment Hoovie' and save his arese lol and you are in business and a professional and all business/professional mechanics, people or whoever they are, do what they are paid for and/or asked to do! We don't have time to diagnose a vehicle for every recall, parts or potential parts failures, if we are asked to do a specific thing *and not asked for a total diagnostic check" and have to do, what the customer wants (even if we advise otherwise) which I'm sure you advised 'Hoovie' about the Nitrous (which is totally INSANE) lol but, it also shows (as when we watch Hoovies) in his car buying skills, as he has a record of buying allot of lemons, which I'm sure most and you wouldn't have bought! I totally agree with how and why you are upset and I will give this a 'thumbs up'! Keep the good work and entertainment going!

  • Thanks for the teardown. I'm not a mechanic but could follow everything you were explaining and found it interesting. Something I'd be interested in knowing in the future is what makes a certain engine suitable for nitrous vs not (since you were clear that it would probably destroy the Prius motor from the beginning). Is it just the strength / rating / tolerances of the components? Re: the trolls. Based on the rant at the end it seems like they're getting to you. Just ignore and don't feed the trolls and don't let it get to you. It's unhealthy. I usually never comment, but did this time just to put in some positivity since I enjoy your videos. :)
