  • John Oliver!!! This is an appeal from all the people of Hong Kong for you to please please do an article on what just happened here!!! 🇭🇰 We need to highlight our situation around the world about this bloody bad extradition bill, that the government wasnt listening to us even when we had protests of 1 million strong on Monday, followed by mass protests and shutting down and occupying the government district on Wednesday. So much has happened this week including all the scary things about China encroaching on our terittory and freedoms far sooner than promised by the handover... Please highlight a few minutes on the situation in Hong Kong as were fighting for our freedoms and rights here!!

Abortion is taking life and killing it. Rape incest or serious medical complications are only 2.7 % of the Abortions, 97.3 are inconvienience, which is a very sinful thing to do, kill a baby. Its barbaric. Planned Parenthood is the devils workshop. #5 are you a comedian? Or are you an activist on the wrong side of history and truth? You act is the same as the rest of Hollywood, hypocrisy on all levels. Jimmy Kimmel, the view and other uninformed feelings first talk shows off the rails just like you. You support evil, immorality, do movies with auto matic weapons, sex, nudity, foul language and violence then you call it art and blame the NRA and responsible people for violence. Hypocrites unite. You have CNN, you have the ill informed millenials with out good parents, the universities teaching kids dangerous BS like socialism and safe spaces but we have truth, the silent majority, God and morals. You have malevolance and nihilism.

    • So...church ISN'T a "safe space" for _you_ then? I can totally go to whatever church that you're in and spout whatever I believe that you don't, and you'd be okay with that, because "no safe spaces", right? Or better yet, I'll just show up at your door. "No safe spaces", right? Also: even _if_ your ideological ilk truly were the "majority", you're anything but "silent" at this point. However surey sure you are that you're OH-so-righteous, quit pretending that your side is somehow "silent", "humble", "courteous" or anything. Your side is the most aggressive, persistently loud side of the aisle in the past 50 years of America; if anything, if you want to present differently, than shut your gob for once. _Also_ also: "movies with automatic weapons"? ...when was John Oliver ever in any kind of action movie...?

Only the rest of the free world doesn't think of the USA as the leading nation at all... And now I know that American women don't even have equal rights under the constitution.... • "I don't care if they're homos or what" its fine. She's saying she doesn't care about people's sexuality in that matter. She's using the language of her time to make a point that you in fact agree with. Why chastise her for something that she can never repair or be responsible for, especially since she would be a political ally if you just held back your impossible "holier than thou" attitude. Back in her day showing any kind of appreciation of homosexuals was most probably prone to personal backlash. Always look at the past with having the context in mind. Would you now completely throw away Gandhi's ideas because he was a wife beater ? Would you condemn MLK for some similar deeds that are today (in our contemporary point of view) wrong ? If you want to defend tolerance then you must know that tolerance starts with tolerating the language of the other, as it represents his ideas, his world, his point of view. Heroes are never perfect, they are extremely flawed yet they are heroes all the same.

  • I'm all for the ERA, I think it's going to backfire on women though (since the only laws that are likely to change will be to take away some of the privileges women enjoy over men). Take for example by law all males aged 18 - 25 must register with the Selective Service. I'm sure if the ERA is passed one of the first cases before the Supreme Court will be a some fire brand young man who refuses to register on the grounds that the law unfairly targets only men. In that case it's likely that Congress will end up either repealing the Selective Service Act or amending it to include women. I'm also sure some jail house lawyer will sue the government on the grounds that for the exact same crime women get less time. I support the ERA 100% I foresee it being a big benefit for both men and women. John is right that there is nothing in the constitution that prohibits sex discrimination and I think adding it is a good idea, however he did downplay the importance of the laws we already have from both the Civil Rights Act of 1964 & 1968 which prohibits sex discrimination. A common mantra of women is equal pay for equal work which I totally support and think any company that practices paying women less for equal work should be fined and vilified. But be aware that the often quoted statistic of women earning 71 cents per dollar earned by a man is not a direct comparison between people in the same job, but an overall earnings difference between the sexes. It includes comparing the earnings of a predominantly male profession like plumber or electrician to a predominantly female profession like sales clerk for a boutique or a secretary, when both sexes are in the same profession often times the women work less hours or had a break in job history due to being more often then men to take on the care/raising of a child. When several of these factors are taken into account the earning difference can drop to as much as 96 cents to every dollar. However, there still is a earning gap that may be to gender discrimination, but it's very difficult to spot. One study did show that a woman with kids (is seen as a liability, can be called away at a moments notice to handle the kids) and earns far less than a man with kids (which is viewed as an asset, he's more reliable than a single man and you don't have to worry about him being called away from work because his wife will supposedly take care of the kids). In fact for hiring for the same job the first choice is a family man, then a single man, then a single no children woman and finally a woman with kids. This study shows gender discrimination still occurs in the work place, but thankfully it's not as widespread or bad as the 71 cents per dollar statistic would lead you to believe.

Anyone serious questions that women are equal to men? Except weird arguments like that women are not equality treated because they do not have pissoirs in their toilets.... 🙄 But exactly this is the danger - pushing for further, more controversial demands, claiming they are naturally derived from such extemely broad and generic earlier statement. See what happens with LGBT - for them now equal rights is not only to be treated respectfully and without prejudice, it also means to be able to adopt children, have sex "change" refunded by goverment, and respecting #dragkids (instead of jailing parents) are surely also part of movement for equality. Pushing for special privileges by certain groups never stops. Understand this people...

Don't waste your time trying to respond with your hate, I know all of you liberals know nothing about having kids or getting married. This isn't equal rights this is preferential rights, but you'll never acknowledge it, did white men acknowledge their shortcomings 150 years ago? 50 years ago? When did white men finally start to admit their shortcomings? When they started to lose preference. That's when. Enjoy this time non white non males, you may not realize it yet, but as Natalie Merchant said, "These are the days". And you can thank Trump and the stupid white dudes who elected him, they did more damage to their own cause than anyone has. • John Oliver truly is slime. I watched Oliver's interview on the Breakfast Club after his panel with Dustin Hoffman. It was very telling of his motives and viewpoint. If he were interested in getting at the truth, he would have spoken of Hoffman as an equal participant. Someone who had an uncomfortable interaction with a woman, may have a different view on it, and either learned something, changed in some way, or grew deeper in his beliefs about womem. Instead, Oliver can barely mention Dustin Hoffman's name. When he is asked, "did he know the questions were coming?", Oliver looks surprised, "i dont know", as if any knowledge or concern of Hoffman's state of mind was beyond his care or knowledge. This is a sociopath. Hoffman was a momentary vehicle for Oliver's advancement. Whispering the word "evil" might even be appropriate, but I don't know the man's character.

For example in cases of custody men can often look like the better guardian because they have a higher income. That higher income could be due to sex discrimination in the work force. It just goes to show how much more needs to be fixed after a law like this is passed, but it makes me hopeful that the government is having these discussions about equality.

I honestly don't think people care enough about biological women to consider them as actual human beings as opposed to merely being viewed as objects for the fulfillment of male desire. like, a woman can never be defined on her own and always has to be defined in relation to men.

  • Looking for respectful discussion/responses: I'm not a very political individual, and just ran into the ERA through this video. Like the 80%, I thought gender equality was already codified as an amendment. I want to educate myself on the matter (which of course involves researching the issue and taking in an array of opinions). I ran into this comment by Phyllis Schalfly, which actually seemed plausible to me: "The amendment would require women to be drafted into military combat any time men were conscripted. [It] would abolish the presumption that the husband should support his wife and take away Social Security benefits for wives and widows. It would also give federal courts and the federal government enormous new powers to reinterpret every law that makes a distinction based on gender, such as those related to marriage, divorce, and alimony." I am not familiar with the details of the laws surrounding Social Security benefits for widows or alimony (having not experienced any of those situations myself), but do you think any laws regarding the military draft, Social Security, or alimony would change? I ask this respectfully, understanding that changes in these areas could be perceived as good, bad, or neutral. I support the idea of codifying equality across genders, but I guess I'm curious about what y'all think the cascading effects of this amendment could be.

  • politics reach into a women to kill their kids is not equality men ever asked for . so why would it be equal for women ? you are promising women something better than a family ? or is it just the poor you toss these vain ideas to ? unless its a pimp, sex trafficker , celebrity or politician that wants to get rid of their mistakes. ( kids ) . having women accept such acts for what amounts to shallow reasoning , just makes them feel better about themselves and disdain for women . and people like the comedian/propagandist are just the drooling mouth piece in a frenzied laugh; about putting women in such a confused state of mind to accept such low standards for themselves and their lost future children .
