  • Wow comparing passing out from exhaustion to death? KPop fans need to take a chill pill! I honestly don't get kpop at all. Also, why can't fans leave celebrities alone! If it's private they have no business sticking their noses into it! Ugh! I doubt the school system will be fixed. I mean I want it to get fixed because my high school experience was crap because of it but I think they won't do anything about it. If a massive corporation is making money, they probably won't give a crap and keep going.

  • Quality Education? A strike won't fix this mess of an education system. Not only is our school more focused on short term learning to pass a dumb test instead of actually teaching us to remember this stuff on long term, but my highschool in California is fucked. Full of low lives, who only vape, smoke weed, and drink, with no successfull futures. Well if you count unwanted pregnancies, teenage sex, future single mothers, and 10% of whatever salary they have spent on juuls and substances then I guess we can say they're doing just fine... I wonder if the education system before the 70s was better?

  • My classes are usually like 25-40 student. 40 is rare. And my school has a nurse like 2 times a week at most. I mean I think 2 times a week because I usually see the nurse in her office, which has a glass wall so you can see if she's there or not, like two times a week, she isn't even available every period. Anyways, I can sort of, from a student view, understand their situation.

  • When they were talking about the nurses I was like... I’ve never been to a school with a nurse. If you’re sick you would either go home or go to the hospital. I always thought that school nurses weren’t a real thing. We also didn’t have any mental health professionals or anything. Is that not normal?

  • I'm not going to lie, the K-pop fans that thought that it was okay to mock the death of Sean are honestly fucked up. I understand if they were offended by what Grayson said and did but that does not mean that they have the right to go and say such insensitive things like "Karmas a bitch". Wtf? Passing out and death are totally different things, and the death of Sean is much more hurtful to the twins than K-pop fans getting offended for what Grayson did. Sean is their father and K-pop singers are idols, there is big difference between an idol and a father.

  • On the topic of the teachers, I live in Australia and one of the biggest problems at my school is that they do not want to deal with depressed students. One of my friends was harming her self and was "asked to leave". She now goes to a public high school, and she looks happier than I have ever seen her in my five years of knowing her. Another one of my friends was threatened to be put in detention for having depression. I am disgusted by the way my school acts, and even though I have brought these things up with my parents, as usual, they have ignored me. And, as someone dealing with their own problems, I went to see the counsellor, and I felt no connection with her. Everything she did felt like a generic protocol that she just had to follow. I can't get the help that I want at my school. But at least they're using the money from our annual fee of $26000+ (AUD; $18000 USD) to get air conditioning and new hand dryers. Really helping the students...

I am most definately not the best person to voice this, but it is the teachers that make that connection, not the smaller classes. • I am a high school student in Montana. My mom is an instructional para at an elementary school. Our class sizes our small and that definitely helps improve the education I receive. Unfortunately we do not have enough substitute teachers in our district forcing teachers to work when they probably shouldn’t. They also are barely paid enough to live here. My Spanish teacher works a second job to support his family. It is expensive to live even in the cheapest parts of town where I am because we are so close to a big ski resort and that raises the price of living. Education is very important to me and my family and I am very upset by the conditions these teachers are working in.

  • As a disability rights advocate, you can shut down charter schools. In Nevada you don’t even cross the threshold if you’re disabled, but they get thousands in funding. One statewide “on-line” school reported it bought 30 iPads for students with intellectual disabilities. I called up five families to apply, and every last one was told their child’s need were “too significant” to be served at the charter. Conveniently there were 30 staff and administrators. Charters steal from education. Let them be privately funded. Not one bloody dime for charter schools.

  • Personally I don't think charter schools should get government funding unless they MAINTAIN a certain amount of diversity for so many years. I think that they should have maybe a trial period of a year where they are given the funds and at the end of the year they go back to a certain amount of students that are racially and financially diverse and ask questions based on their school year. They should have to see if the students grades and behaviors improved over the year.

  • (US) Schools have _always_ been under funded and under staffed. This is not going to change - EVER. I'm a product of the NC public education system (many decades ago); we never had an on-site nurse, and didn't have a counselor until high school -- neither were ever needed. Of course, we didn't have bombings or mass shootings back then. We had 30+ student classes back in the 70s and 80s. Today we have "year round" schedules to boost capacity by 33%.

  • The teachers' strike story was so sad for me, even though I wasn't directly impacted by public school conditions. I went to a small private school (in the US) where the average class size was 10-15. Even on the upper end with 20 students, I could feel a difference; my favorite classes were the small ones where the teacher could look after each of us and customize the curriculum based on how we responded. I can't even imagine dealing with over 40 for one hour, much less every day. And not having a nurse at all times sounds awful for both the kids that can't get treated and the staff who aren't trained to treat them. It's great that the strike was successful, but it sounds like there's still way more progress to be made. We don't respect teachers nearly enough in this country.

    • +GreenOnionBrother The classrooms aren't bigger, there is just less empty space. And higher education has multiples more students. And microphones would be a much cheaper than a 5 figure salary if that is actually a concern. The problem is they don't really care about all that, they want the teacher to increase the demand for their labor and give the Union more income (as they get a cut of every salary, so the more teachers - the more the Unions income). And most teachers have no problem yelling at students for an hour, that's all they do even when the class is small - yelling about something, rarely about something educational. Usually about how society is so messed up they, the heroes and glory of society gets paid peanuts while worthless entertainment figures get paid outrageous sums. lol

And expensive teachers, not their regular pay but the benefits which are forecasted to be half the budget in 10 years alone. And you can't fire bad teachers very easily, even when there are accusations of abuse, they just sit and do nothing. There was an LA Times article on this not too long ago. Talked about how there are teachers that are paid to not teacher and sit in an empty room all day because they aren't fit to be with kids but they can't be fired.

I joined a charter school at the start of middle school and it was one of the greatest things that I ever decided to do. I got a teacher one on one, a fantastic counselor, learning resources, and i got to make my own schedule to learn in the way that i needed to. Im currently in college and i have a 4.0 gpa, and i don't think i could have gotten there if i hadnt gotten the opportunity of being in a charter school. AmberAmberPřed 3 měsíci
  • I felt mostly offended by how KPop fans joked about the Dolan Twins' father's death because of a KPop joke from the twins that was not meant to be taken seriously. I will say that both sides were at fault due to both sides touching on sensitive topics (KPop singers being overworked and Death), but that doesn't excuse the elephant in the room. Death is actually painful, and I'm sure that the fans would feel horrible about themselves if they had their own family member die only to get backlash from others because of the past. Joking about death is extremely hurtful, especially to the victims of the death. These kinds of incidents are the reason why laws like Article 13 exist. (And if anyone is wondering if I support Article 13, I'm neutral about it.) When we are on the internet, we feel powerful. We feel anonymous. Because of this, we type whatever we want to type without considering the consequences. There is no restriction on the internet. And that is why laws are being created to restrict such things. When you post something on the internet, it's not like talking to someone face-to-face where you can never take back whatever you say. On the internet, you can take it back. Or at least we think we do. Social Media posts are like talking with someone face-to-face. Even if you type and post something on the internet, you can truly never take it back. It is on your digital footprint, and people can go back and find that post. Besides, behind every account is a living human being just like you and me. So be mindful of your words. Moral of the story: Use your common sense and treat the people as if they were real people, not as just an avatar or character in a story.

  • I cant express how deeply upset it makes me that people are wanting to go to the funeral to meet the twins. As someone who admittedly doesn't know a lot about the dolan twins or their content, but as someone who has experienced the loss of a close loved one, the Dolan's need time to grieve and adjust. Its so not cool to put pressure on them to create content during this period LET ALONE MAKE THIS (WHAT IM SURE IS) A HORRIBLY PAINFUL PERIOD OF LOSS AND ADJUSTMENT, FORCE YOURSELVES INTO THEIR LIVES WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT. To the young people who might not have experienced loss, who might not understand that what their doing is wrong, i encourage you to speak to someome close to you about empathy and heaing after loss. If youre someome who organized this or you are someone who is not juvenile enough to claim ignorance on what you're doing then you should feel ashamed because that action is disgusting, You're not supporting your favorite creators, you are invading on their lives. • In Ontario Canada we never had a nurse at school. Not elementary or high school. I graduated in 09, free general health care I guess tho.
